San José, Costa Rica Play Movie
San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica and the nation's largest city. Culturally, the city can be considered almost entirely European, in part because of Spanish immigration soon after Costa Rica's contact with Christopher Columbus, and the privileged classes which generally studied in Europe during the nineteenth century and early twentieth century. This can be seen in the architecture of the city, namely theatres, museums and houses in the city centre. It is named in honor of Joseph of Nazareth.
Sarchí Play Movie
Sarchí is known for it's local and traditional crafts. The town offers more than 200 stores and small family-operated woodworking factories producing wooden bowls and other tableware, fold-up rocking chairs of wood and leather, and a wide variety of kitschy items.

During our tour we will learn more about their colorfully painted oxcarts ("carretas") and oxen yokes, the national symbols of Costa Rican folklore and traditions. Sarchi is also home to the world's largest oxcart which resides in the town square.
Arenal Volcano Play Movie
Arenal Volcano is around 90km northwest of San José, it measures at least 1,633 metres (5,358 ft) high. Geologically, Arenal is considered a young volcano and it is estimated to be less than 7,500 years old.

The volcano was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacón. Since 2010, Arenal has been dormant.
Tabacón Hot Springs Play Movie
Costa Rica's largest network of naturally flowing thermal mineral springs flanked by the beautiful Arenal Volcano at one end and the Arenal Volcano National Park on the other. There are five main springs source highly mineralized water that is heated underground by the Arenal Volcano's magma. Thousands of gallons of this perfect water naturally emanate every minute.

An essential part of exploring the wondrous world of the Tabacón Hot Springs is soaking in the cascading thermal waterfalls. This natural hydrotherapy is a surefire way to achieve proper relaxation. Visitors tend to thoroughly enjoy exploring the numerous river pools, with their varying temperatures and water flows. Some pools are vast and calm, others are small and afford privacy for those wishing to disappear in a secluded nook. The river-pool temperatures range from 72 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Tabacón's water has been blessed with the perfect combination of high volume and a medicinal mineral content. Also worth noting is that sulfur content is low, which means that the water is free of strong and undesirable odors.
Doka Estate Play Movie
Doka Estate coffee is one of Costa Rica's highest quality coffees. The Doka Coffee Estate is located on the fertile slopes of the Alajuela Poas Volcano, the rich soil and the ideal altitude and climate have made the Santa Eduviges farm famous because of it's excellent coffee.

The Vargas coffee growing family also carry a brand - Cafe Tres Generaciones - ("Three Generations Coffee") that conveys the great care and pride that this coffee growing family have placed in their coffee trees.

We will also have the opportunity to the amazing butterfly garden located at the plantation. Home to 15 species that undergo the complete metamorphosis within this facility. Also in the garden you will find each butterfly's host plant, aerial trails, watersheds and botanical gardens.

Mary-Louise (Mel) Peters, Northfork, CA - "Great trip. Relaxed at the beginning to let us unwind. More vigorous the second half when we were ready. The jungle hikes were great!"
Sarah Kirtland, Williamsburg, VA - "The trip was exactly what I hoped it would be - and more. The group was relatively small, the quilting exercises perfect for my skill level (or any skill level). The weather was perfect. The food was the best I've had in a long time - consistently good. The people were interesting - and it was great to have the common interest of quilting."
Vickie Adams, Durham, CA - "Loved the coffee tour. Beautiful place and learned a lot about coffee. Wish we had experienced a rain forest, can't do it all in one week. Loved meeting Jenny and Susan."
Donna Ann Molinelli, Driggs, ID - "Great trip, all told. Jinny is THE colormaster."
Beverly Brown, Bloomington, IN - "I had a wonderful time on this my second trip to Costa Rica. It is a beautiful place to visit and very worm friendly people."
