COSTA RICA HIGHLIGHTS:

San José, Costa Rica Play Movie
San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica and the nation's largest city. Culturally, the city can be considered almost entirely European, in part because of Spanish immigration soon after Costa Rica's contact with Christopher Columbus, and the privileged classes which generally studied in Europe during the nineteenth century and early twentieth century. This can be seen in the architecture of the city, namely theatres, museums and houses in the city center. It is named in honor of Joseph of Nazareth.
Arenal Volcano Play Movie
Arenal Volcano is around 90km northwest of San José, it measures at least 1,633 metres (5,358 ft) high. Geologically, Arenal is considered a young volcano and it is estimated to be less than 7,500 years old.

The volcano was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacón. Since 2010, Arenal has been dormant.
Sarchí Play Movie
Sarchí is known for it's local and traditional crafts. The town offers more than 200 stores and small family-operated woodworking factories producing wooden bowls and other tableware, fold-up rocking chairs of wood and leather, and a wide variety of kitschy items.

During our tour we will learn more about their colorfully painted oxcarts ("carretas") and oxen yokes, the national symbols of Costa Rican folklore and traditions. Sarchi is also home to the world's largest oxcart which resides in the town square.
Doka Estate Play Movie
Doka Estate coffee is one of Costa Rica's highest quality coffees. The Doka Coffee Estate is located on the fertile slopes of the Alajuela Poas Volcano, the rich soil and the ideal altitude and climate have made the Santa Eduviges farm famous because of it's excellent coffee.

The Vargas coffee growing family also carry a brand - Cafe Tres Generaciones - ("Three Generations Coffee") that conveys the great care and pride that this coffee growing family have placed in their coffee trees.

We will also have the opportunity to the amazing butterfly garden located at the plantation. Home to 15 species that undergo the complete metamorphosis within this facility. Also in the garden you will find each butterfly's host plant, aerial trails, watersheds and botanical gardens.

TESTIMONIALS FROM PAST COSTA RICA TRIPS:

Mary-Louise (Mel) Peters, Northfork, CA - "Great trip. Relaxed at the beginning to let us unwind. More vigorous the second half when we were ready. The jungle hikes were great!"
Sarah Kirtland, Williamsburg, VA - "The trip was exactly what I hoped it would be - and more. The group was relatively small, the quilting exercises perfect for my skill level (or any skill level). The weather was perfect. The food was the best I've had in a long time - consistently good. The people were interesting - and it was great to have the common interest of quilting."
Vickie Adams, Durham, CA - "Loved the coffee tour. Beautiful place and learned a lot about coffee. Wish we had experienced a rain forest, can't do it all in one week. Loved meeting Jenny and Susan."
Donna Ann Molinelli, Driggs, ID - "Great trip, all told. Jinny is THE colormaster."
Beverly Brown, Bloomington, IN - "I had a wonderful time on this my second trip to Costa Rica. It is a beautiful place to visit and very worm friendly people."
Andrew Black , Princeville, IL- "This was very well organized and appreciated all that Mary Ellen did to keep the group together and on track. Putting something together of this caliber with all of the stops, plus to throw in the water taxis, buses, hotel stays, etc. can be a challenge. From our end we felt it went very smoothly and we had a FANTASTIC time. Many, many good - long lasting memories of Italy."
Cyndi Bridgman , Dallas, TX- "A fun trip. Combination of learning, and relaxation."
Y. Downs , Alta Loma, CA- "First, let me say that our tour guide Mary Ellen was fantastic. She was helpful in every way. Interactive with the group and made me feel very comfortable. Bret the photographer was super. He assisted everyone in the group when needed to capture the perfect pictures. I learned a lot. The tour was my first with Craftours and not my last. Accommodations were wonderful - first class all the way."
Ann McDevitt , Burlington, MA- "The tour was awesome. The country is beautiful. Brett and Mary Ellen were fabulous."
Charlotte Carr , Seattle, WA- "Enjoyed Costa Rica and the company of fellow travelers."
