Today we begin our exciting deluxe quilting tour of Iceland with an overnight nonstop flight from the United States. A light dinner snack will be served onboard the plane during our flight. D
Monday July 18thUpon are arrival in Reykjavik we will meet our bus driver and guide for a panoramic tour of the city before transferring to our luxury hotel. Reykjavik is a bustling thriving busy little town set on the fringe of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by a lunar netherworld with the shadowy hulk of Mount Esja in the background. Reykjavik is both a beguiling city and romantic city. This afternoon we will travel through town and visit with the ladies at the Hand knitting Association and watch a demonstration of them at work. Here we will have a chance to shop and buy some local handicrafts and woolen goods they have produced. We travel back to the center of town and stop at the Kringlan a major shopping center where there is just about anything visitors require, Here we’ll get a chance to shop and browse through all the sophisticated fashion shops selling the latest designs, hip boutiques, international brand name shops, jewelry shops, crystal ware and souvenir shops and an art gallery. We will head back to our hotel and have dinner and relax for the rest of the evening. D
Tuesday July 19thAfter a delicious hearty breakfast we will board our motor coach with our guide and go on what is described as the most famous day trips in Iceland THE GOLDEN CIRCLE, we will travel along the south side of the Island where we will see a collection of natural wonders and historical sites. This excursion offers some of the best-known natural phenomena of Iceland. We will continue onto the impressive waterfall, Gullfoss, and the geothermal area, Geysir. We will then visit a beautiful church, Skálholt, the ancient seat of Icelandic Bishops, revealing a part of Iceland’s religious past. This tour will take you through fertile agricultural areas, where a photo stop is made by an old implosion crater, Kerið. We will also visit the greenhouse community, Hveragerði. Here you will see how Icelanders have harnessed the natural geothermal energy of Iceland to grow vegetables, fruits and exotic plants. A short drive through the highly mountainous region will bring us back to our hotel for a delicious evening meal. B, D
Wednesday July 20thWe start our day with a traditional Icelandic breakfast at our hotel. Today we will travel to the town of Selfoss which is a short drive south of Reykjavik. Here we will visit a quilting center and partake in a quilting class and have some free time for some shopping. This evening we will eat out at a exquisite local well renowned fish restaurant named Vid Fjorubordid in the town of Stokkseyri – this unique restaurant on the south coast offers atmosphere, fresh air and uninterrupted views of the sea and after scrumptious dinner we board our motor coach and make our back to our hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening at our own leisure. Thursday July 21stAfter breakfast we have an optional day trip to Luagar luxury health spa: those who don’t wish to go to the spa have a free day to relax at their own leisure. B
Laugar is a high quality luxury health and spa resort situated in the Laugardalur valley in Reykjavík. In the spa you will enter an aquatic heaven where you can indulge both body and soul. Laugar has Olympic size indoor and outdoor thermal pools, a bright and spacious fitness centre, an amazing spa, a beauty and massage clinic, a restaurant, a hairdressing salon and a sports shop. Six different saunas and steam rooms are kept at varying temperatures, each with its own fragrance and theme. Try Jacuzzis with hot and cold subterranean sea water or enjoy the relaxation room, equipped with comfortable benches and a centrally located fireplace. The philosophy at Laugar Spa and World Class is that everyone should be able to find a leisure activity to fit their needs.
We start our day with breakfast together and check out of our hotel, and travel to the town of Akureyri situated on the shores of the north coast. This charming little port town is the cultural and commercial capital of northern Iceland. The journey will take us about 5-6 hours. Along the way we will see many beautiful sights such as lakes, rivers and rugged landscapes of this amazing country so bring your cameras. We will stop off for lunch along the way and some free time in the town of Blondous. After we finish lunch we will visit the local Textile museum which exhibits a large collection of handmade wool and textile items. We will also see exhibits of some of the Icelandic national costumes and artistic embroideries along with the many tools and equipment used to produce them. We continue on our Icelandic journey along the northern coast and upon arrival in Akureyri we will check into luxury hotel and have dinner. B, D
Saturday July 23rdAfter breakfast at the hotel we will visit a local quilting shop where we will watch a demonstration and enjoy a class. Then we will travel to the center of the town to an area known as Arts’ Alley here we will find the center of cultural life in the area known for all kinds of art related activities, and visit the Art museum, The Akureyri school of visual arts, and Artists studios. Here we can have lunch. Later in the afternoon we make our way to the world’s most northerly Botanical garden which houses about 7500 plant species. The Akureyri museum The collection illustrates the cultural history of the past through exhibits of traditional art and crafts, photographs, tools and implements from farms, domestic articles a must see and then male our way back to our hotel and have dinner. The remainder of the evening is free. B, D
Sunday July 24thAfter breakfast we will board our coach and travel to the town of Myvatan along the north coast. Along the way will stop off at Lake Myvatn which is renowned for its awesomeness and natural beauty here we can take some photos and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We will also stop along the way at Godafoss waterfall the most impressive waterfall in the whole country. Once we arrive at Myvatan we will have lunch on our own. We will return back to our hotel later in the evening. B
Monday July 25thAfter breakfast we check out of our hotel and travel back to Reykjavik stopping off along the way for lunch. We will check into our hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is free for you to enjoy and last minute shopping. Tonight we will enjoy our farewell dinner and speech at the hotel. B, D
Tuesday July 26thAfter breakfast we check out of our hotel and board our motor coach for the transfer to the airport for our flight home.
